If you are applying to the New York State Bar, you must pass a screening by the Character and Fitness Committee. This Committee which is made up of admitted attorneys, will reviewe any ethical issues in your history and determine if you meet the qualifications to be an attorney in New York. First and foremost the Committee wants candor. They cannot be placed in a position to guess if you are hiding something.
We at The Law Offices of Michael S. Discioarro, LLC can help you through this process. We will investigate the issues and discuss all of your options.Often, the issues can be explained and the applicant can be shown to have the requisite character needed for bar admission. Section 90 of the Judiciary law states that the Appellate Divisions in each part of the state must “be satisfied” that a candidate for admission possesses the requisite character and fitness to join our profession. This is a vague standard that is often difficult to quantify. If you are facing issues with your Bar Admission contact us at 917-519-8417 for a confidential consultation.
